Study shows 25% of high school stundents would buy an iPhone

In Forbes.com's article Ahead
of the Bell: Kids Eat Up Apple, the
Associated Press reports, "Apple Inc.
continues to enjoy strong interest from
high school students in both its iPod
and new iPhone, according to results
from a recent Piper Jaffray survey."
The article continues, "The study also showed that 84 percent of students surveyed had heard of the iPhone, a wireless Internet device and cell phone. Furthermore, 25 percent said they would shell out $500 to buy the device, which is set for release in the U.S. in June."
In a client note, Gene Munster, a senior research analyst for Piper Jaffray, wrote, "'We believe that the teen demographic is a critical component of long-term growth in both markets, and Apple is clearly leading the category.'"

100 Million iPods

In Forbes.com's article Apple's Speed Record, Rachel Rosmarin writes, "Apple marked yet another milestone in the iPod's five-and-a-half-year long march toward ubiquity when it announced Monday it had sold 100 million of the pocket-sized music players."
Keeping in mind that the first iPod was introduced in 2001, Rosmarin continues, "It took Sony 13 and a half years to sell its first 100 million cassette playing units, and few other consumer electronics devices have passed the 100 million mark at all."
"So will anyone else ever come close to moving as many gizmos as fast as Apple and Sony have been able to? Not likely." Rosmarin pens, "...hardly any other brand-name devices seem set to reach the 100 million barrier. Even those devices that seem to be ubiquitous still have a long way to go. Research in Motion's (nasdaq: RIMM - news - people ) BlackBerry? A mere 7 million subscribers."
Wait until the iPhone is released, which will contain the best iPod the company has ever manufactured (while other companies keep threatening they are releasing an "iPod killer") and surpasses the functionality and ease of use of what the so-called "smartphones" can do. And by the way, our action movies, horror movies, and indie movies will look killer on the iPhone.
