Apple released its second generation (2G) iPod Touch in September of 2008. It is a "remix" of the older first generation iPod Touch (1G) released in 2007, and the brother/sister of the iPhone. With all the new updates Apple integrated into the 2G, it is arguably the best media player or handheld on the market today.
Features
Features of the iPod Touch 2G are about the same as the first generations features. You have the ability to watch videos/movies wherever you wish, on a screen that you could call a "mini HD." There are many different applications and games that you can download, that I will talk about later on. With the Wifi antenna, users are able to surf the web just like you would on your PC or Mac. This comes in handy for lots of things such as looking up a word in English class, or just casual browsing of the net. Since the iPod Touch is only Wifi compatible you must be near a Wifi access point to be able to connect to the internet. Many hotels, and restaurants already have or will be installing wireless routers. Last but certainly not least, the iPod Touch is still able to do what the "iPod" was originally made for...to listen to music.
New Additions
Apple has worked hard on the 2G since the 1G was released, and they listened to their customers and took our ideas and made them a reality. The new 2G is equipped with external volume rockers, just like the iPhone. They allow for a quick adjust in volume without having to unlock the iPod like the 1G required. Another big feature was the addition of an external speaker. This is great for playing games, or rocking out to your favorite song without the need of headphones. However its not of the best quality, and doesn't get too loud but it does work great for general uses. Apple also changed the tint of the screen on the 2G. The new iPod Touch has a so-called "yellow" tint to the screen. This update is supposed to allow less stress on the eye, and allow a "warmer" feeling. Some complain that they do not like this feature, but I will be quite honest...I think it looks great. You all know about the Nike+iPod gadget that allows iPod users to plug a device into their ipod and place a chip in their shoe to track steps, etc. However the 2G now has Nike+iPod built in and the only thing you need is the chip for your shoe. The last update with the 2G has to do with the looks. The ipod now has a chrome bezel around the front instead of a dull gray like the 1G. The ipod is now more curved, and the Wifi antenna
